Lil' Benny

First character design for the semester! We already had to design a character in class and stick with it. It was pretty scary but surprisingly I was able to rotate it fully in-class while my portfolio character took me months of redesigning and repositioning.

So here's Lil' Benny, a boy in a onesie pyjama:
UPDATE

Here are drawings of Lil' Benny's structure. I mostly concentrated on the structure and making it as simple and have an interesting silhouette, which was mostly on his head and legs. I thought it would be interesting to see process work, you never really get to see much of it. Or if you do, it tends to be good looking "final" roughs.

Here's a sketch we had to do as a segue into our next character design project: posing. We took our character we did and put it into this specific pose for some practice and fun. I just really liked how alive he became in this doodle.

Balls

I was unsure whether or not I should post these here or just tumblr but seeing as how I made this blog for the purpose of seeing progress, putting up these basics are great to reminisce about my first proper* foray into the whimsical world of animation.

Here are the few seconds of animations I did that took up my weekend and hundreds of papers! I'm glad we're moving on from these for something more fun!

Enjoy!

PSA: I never want to see a balloon ever again...unless it's being popped.

*I have animated before but it was on my own as well as the frustrating title sequence project from VCA3.

First Year Animation Life Drawing

PHEW!

First three weeks complete! The program is amazing and the people in it are fun, friendly, and talented. In just the first week (apart from having to spend a truckload of money on paint supplies) we were already given a ton of deadlines and it really kept me on my toes, I can only imagine what the rest of the year is like and I'm excited for it.

Some life drawings from the first two weeks of school (class and extra life). I forgot to bring my pads in my locker home from this past week, forgive me.

Tumblr Blog

WHOA WHOA WHOA! Hold your horses!

I'm not leaving Blogspot.

Blogspot will continue to be my main art blog.

Now that's out of the way, I'm starting my own tumblr page for some extra promotion. Major pieces of artwork will still be posted here first. Most of the posts I make on tumblr will redirect here, free of any watermark if I ever decide to put them. I have found that I have throwaway doodles/sketches and other random artsy related stuff that aren't really worthy enough to post here but interesting enough to share. Although, for the first few posts on tumblr I'll just be re-sharing some old stuff.

So here it is:

artofmarcorivera.tumblr.com

Cool? Cool cool cool. So if you already have a tumblr, you should totally follow me.
A permanent link to my tumblr blog will remain on the sidebar to the right.

As for the other mystery, it will come in due time. Be patient.

Tomorrow is the big day! First day of animation, finally.
It's literally a dream come true.
Wish me luck!

Spaceman Oddity

Last night's doodle of an astronaut. Decided to suck it up and work with ink and markers once again.  It's a start and I'm having fun playing around with positive and negative space with it.
