The Mushroom Elf

Early last month a friend told me to draw "an elf wearing a mushroom hat holding a leaf". I thought I lost the file but I found it last week and decided to finish it!

Meet Bogs the mushroom elf! He's a small elf looking forward to a big adventure!

I've been trying to get the hang of using texture brushes so this was an experiment with it. I also tried out some different techniques in line work and colouring, mostly looking to Bobby Pontillas and Shiyoon Kim's work as well as old children storybook illustrations.

After drawing this I had a ton of ideas come mind. Big things await Bogs, let's just hope I can get around to it...

Mouth Sync

First actual lip sync!
That "meow" from the head turn last year was pretty basic and we weren't really taught the mechanics of speech as thoroughly as we did this year. I was afraid of this assignment because I've seen examples from the past years and the majority of them looked extremely exaggerated and looked off because they weren't really matching the previous vowel mouth shapes and instead were basic mouth shapes of the current sound.

So I took my time, made weird faces in front of the mirror and analyzed my mouth.

Ta-da!
