Titmouse Secret Santa Drawing Exchange!

At work we did a Secret Santa drawing exchange and the person I received asked for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so here's what I gave him! He like it! Also really awesome to hear other people in the studio enjoyed it as well.

Rotoscoping!

I got to contribute to this cute series of videos (1 of  6)! I did some rotoscoping to get rid of the puppeteers, heads popping up, and hands that would occasionally appear in frame. This is probably my first project that I contributed to that was fully completed and released! Everything else is still in production (Cuphead, Super Science Friends episode 2, etc.) Funny too since this was my most recent project to work on haha. Somehow word got around that I'm After Effects savvy at work and how I composited the majority of my group film. How it happened I don't even know since I asked the other Tinterns if they said anything and no one did. Regardless, it was a job I wasn't expecting to do during the internship but did so and enjoyed it anyway because I got to use the beautiful program that is After Effects!

Anyway enjoy! And remember to check out the 5 other videos on the Super Simple Songs channel.

Some recent Tindraws:

"Superheroes"
We did superheroes to send to Ben Austin, a child who was recently diagnosed with a form of pediatric kidney cancer. Read more of the story here.
I did Mr. Incredible with the message "You're Incredible!".

"Stranger Things"
Woo! So happy that was the theme. I'm so glad so many people are watching it now. I had no one to talk about it to and speculate with when it first released. But after the surge in popularity and pushing people to watch it (muahahaha) I can practically freely talk and theorize with people now it's so much fun. If you haven't checked out the new Netflix series GO WATCH IT NOW!

Not Dead Update

Heyo! NOT DEAD! Just been busy with work and other life stuff got in the way such as a cousin from California that dropped by and we brought him everywhere.

Here's a little bit of what I've been up to at Tinman!

One of the projects I get to work on is the next episode of Super Science Friends and in this month's animation update it features a good chunk of the FX work I've been doing on the show (and a hilarious scene from the episode). All of the FX, except when Tesla gets angry and all super saiyan, is mine! I also did some character posing for the episode at first and also character animation. Anyway enjoy!

Tindraws

"Horror movies/games"
So I did the spitter from Left 4 Dead 2!

"Unicorns"
Self explanatory.

"British television shows"
I was going to do one of Black Mirror but instead did Utopia because no one knows of Utopia, which is partly why it got cancelled. I recommend you check it out, one of the few television shows that had great cinematography and use of colour. Not to mention such an amazing one of a kind soundtrack.

BONUS Benedict Cucumberpatch. After a friend and I were discussing how weird it was to draw him I did a quick 15 second scribble of him that I ended up liking haha.

Tindraws

One month into the internship and I'm liking it so far! Tinman does a weekly drawing theme dubbed "Tindraws". So far I've participated in 3 of them so here they are! Check out Tinman's facebook page where they post the Tindraws every friday!

https://www.facebook.com/TinmanCreativeStudios

"Sonic"
This theme had so many hilarious contributions.

"Indie Comic Characters"
I did Lis from Bryan Lee O'Malley's Seconds.

"Questionable Fashion Trends"
Decided to draw those 90's windbreakers that I remember seeing all the time and are now faded into obscurity. Referenced some boy band haircuts for this guys hair.

Star Wars Portrait

This semester's theme for the banner was Star Wars! Once again everyone did a fantastic job! Here's mine as a not-so-disgusting version of Nien Nunb. I purposefully avoided any jedi or sith portrait for mine, so the first short Star Wars character I thought of was Nien Nunb and it stuck.

Here's the full banner with everyone's portrait that submitted.

Muppet Marco

A tad late on posting this but this season's banner was drawing ourselves as a Muppet!

Here's Muppet Marco!

And the banner with all that participated! Everyone did an awesome job again!

Cuphead in "Don't Deal With The Devil"

Since the end of June I've been helping out the team at Studio MDHR with the wonderful traditionally animated cartoon videogame Cuphead! A videogame with a 1930's cartoon aesthetic AND animated in 1930's style: drawn and inked traditionally on paper! Even the lettering and UI!

I've been looking forward to this game since it's first trailer and having the opportunity to have a hand in helping with its production is a pretty rad experience. It's also been really cool to be able to work on it right after it generated a ton of buzz this past E3. The team is spread across in different locations but I've been working directly under the art director Chad Moldenhauer, one of the brothers responsible for coming up with the idea. I've mostly been doing inking/clean up, colouring, some additional animation, as well as printing, scanning and filing the mounds of drawings they have and a bit more stuff.

If you haven't seen this visually stunning game here's the trailer! Available when it's ready™ 2016 on Xbox One and PC:

Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930's, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional cel animation (hand drawn & inked!), watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets. Cuphead is all action, all the time. Do you have what it takes? "

Above is a drawing I made of Cuphead and myself as a Cuphead character! MugMarco? Mugco? I drew, inked and coloured it the same way they do with the rest of the game.

An inked MugMarco! I made sure he was much of a caricature of myself as possible with a square head, glasses, a square handle to represent my earring and a rounded triangle for a nose. I also made it so his cup head is a pencil holder because I like drawing and I keep my art utensils in a similar fashion on my desk.

Coloured and looking jolly!

Different coloured variations with a bonus black and white version that I still like. In the end I just stuck with making it look like Cuphead in terms of a colour scheme.

I drew this Cuphead in the same pose as the typical Mickey Mouse pose you see on every shirt he's on. This was actually just a test to try out the style as well as the inking (I didn't have a 0.5 marker so I had to use my 0.3 to thicken the lines to achieve a similar look) before drawing the one I made of myself.

Coloured with an opened eyes version, he was originally casually shooting a projectile.

Hogwarts Portrait

Samuel Morin from my year suggested that people draw themselves in their respective Hogwarts house after being sorted of course. It was then made into a banner for our year's facebook group. Everyone's turned out amazing! I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I guess the discussion I had with my friend early first year really rings true, Sheridan Animation really is Hogwarts!

I was sorted into Slytherin several years ago on Pottermore so I drew myself as the seeker for the Slytherin quidditch team. Of course quidditch would be the only sport I would ever participate in voluntarily. I also couldn't imagine myself as a chaser or beater (considered keeper though) but according to Oliver Wood's description in Philosopher's Stone, I guess I fit the "build" of a seeker.

UPDATE!

Sam created a video with a compilation of everyone's drawings! Enjoy!

And the banner Sam made with everyone's drawings! It looks amazing! Amazing job from everyone that participated!

How To Train Your Dragon Portrait

My year decided to make How To Train Your Dragon-themed portraits for a banner. I've never seen the film in its entirety, I know what a sin. But I have seen the beginning and the end on two separate occasions, I just need to see the meat of it all.

Apart from that, I do love the art from it and I absolutely love the dragon designs. For my portrait I attempted to mimic, Nico Marlet's style while maintaining a bit of my own. I like how it turned out a lot and I hope you do too!

MY SPIDER SENSES ARE TINGLING!

Some future classmates and I have been participating in these art jams every thursday this month on Google Hangouts to get to know each other as well as playing some drawing games as exercises. This past thursday we just ended up doing our own things and mostly talking instead of drawing games. I doodled Spiderman out of boredom and liked it, so I wanted to add a little pizzazz!

And here's the doodle:

Hear Me Roar

So I jumped onto the Game of Thrones bandwagon and liked every minute of it. I really love the characters, character development, the awesome acting (especially from the younger actors! Carl from The Walking Dead please take notes), the costume design, and especially the story lines and the risks it takes.

There are still stuff I don't like, mostly not knowing what the limits to the magical elements are in the fiction since it is very minimal. So GRRM could at any time pull off a deus ex machina and the audience is just supposed to accept it. There's a certain shadow-y thing at one part that does this and I disliked that.

Anyway, I drew Tywin Lannister a few days ago and decided to scan and colour him as well. I was sad that I drew it on a separate piece of paper instead of in my sketchbook. Here is the final:

That lion in the background was difficult to place causing too many tangents but I finally found a sweet spot after moving it around for more than 5 minutes.

Here's the drawing I did, there were also a bunch of other doodles on the page. I drew him because I found the facial features of the actor, Charles Dance, rather interesting and I wanted to try to create a caricature. Also, Tywin is one of my favourite characters since he treats Joffrey with some disdain. I will be sad if he happens to die later on.

I want to read the books now...

Daily Sketches

Lately, I've been participating in this daily sketching forum. They post a theme and you draw something fitting that theme. I decided that this was a good way to warm up so every morning I take about 15 to 30 minutes maximum to create or study something.

It has definitely helped in more ways than one. It's not just a warm up but it also helps me think creatively, makes me do research, and I try to make myself try something different each time. Whether it's a technique or style it's a great way to see what I can accomplish and what I'm having difficulty with.

Here are the ones that I like. If indicated, titles are in italics and the theme for that particular day is in bold and links to references if used.

Team Fortress 2 Posters

So the new TF2 update is today and I thought that I might as well finish a project I started on a week or two ago when I finally got my hands on the Futura Bold font. I wanted to play around with it since I've been looking all over for it, I ended up making this while fooling around:

It's based on a map from TF2 with the iconic RED team's base. It was actually a bit more detailed, but I pushed the simplicity as far as I could go. Following KISS to the extreme definitely made this design stronger. Since I did a RED poster, I thought it was only fitting to do a BLU poster and then decided to make a series out of it because it was fun to do...

Since the payload gamemode centers around BLU pushing a bomb cart to RED's base, it was only appropriate for a BLU poster to be a payload map. I was going to do the map Gold Rush, but the word "Hoodoo" looked much more interesting and hoodoos make some interesting silhouettes. This was the second one I started but the last one I finished due to many changes in the hoodoos and payload cart and attempting to add depth through silhouettes.

I thought the colour grey was appropriate for Sawmill: the map is raining, it's king of the hill so teams fight for one point, and the annoying two saw blades in the map are obviously grey. I originally made it look like one blade was in the foreground and the other in the background but it looked too chaotic so I simplified it and centered everything since the contested point is at the centre of the map.

Doomsday is a map that involves the teams fighting over a briefcase full of "Australium", a fictional gold like substance so I thought yellow would be appropriate. Along with the rocket having a yellow cap and highlights and it being commandeered by a monkey astronaut named Poopy Joe (the space program's logo is also of a banana).

Wow, TF2 sounds extremely ridiculous when explaining it...

Anyway I might continue this series later on since I do still have some ideas and the big update is supposed to hit today so I may get even more awesome ideas.

Well time to wait for the update, I can't wait to kill an army of robots.
